Installing the PaperCut client: You must be logged onto the Yale Network with a Yale netid. Go to PaperCut Client Download page and select the ‘PaperCut Mac All Locations' download. The client software is not a separate download but is included by default in the server installation. If you work or study at an organization and you need the PaperCut client installed, have a chat with your IT or Administration department and they'll be able to tell you where to install it from (on your network).

About PaperCut
PaperCut is a print and internet quota, charging, tracking and monitoring system designed to promote theresponsible use of IT resources. It's a premium cross-platform solution specifically designed to meet the needsof schools, universities and other organizations.
The client software supplied is a presentation layer around the server-side implementation. The client softwareis provided to facilitate four tasks:
- Allow users to supply login credentials when printing to printers that require authentication.
- Allow users to view their current account balance via a popup window.
- Allow users to select shared accounts via a popup, if administrators have granted access to this feature.
- Display system messages such as the low credit warning message.
System Requirements

Downloading the PaperCut Client
Download the PaperCut Client fromhere(42.6 MB).
Installing the PaperCut Client
To install the PaperCut Client (PCClient), drag the PCCient application to the /Applications folder.

In addition, the download also includes the PaperCut widget. To install the widget, double-click the PCWidget.wdgt file in the Widget folder.
Configuring the PaperCut Client
IT Services has written a the PaperCut Client configuration installer that will install the PaperCut Clientproperties file to configure the PaperCut Client for use at Iowa State University.
To install the PaperCut Client properties file, double-click on the PaperCutClientConfig file.
Using the PaperCut Client
The PaperCut Client needs a java runtime. No java runtime is installed by Mac OS X 10.7, OS X 10.8, OS X 10.9or OS X 10.10. When you first run PCClient on these systems, you will be presented with a dialog similar tothis:
Click the Install button to install a java runtime.
Defining a PaperCut Printer
You need to define the printers that you want to print to in the Mac OS X printing system. Follow these stepsto define a PaperCut Printer:
Open System Preferences and click on Print & Fax
Click the + button.
Select IP
Select Internet Printing Protocol - IPP from the Protocol menu.
Enter 'papercut-ipp.iastate.edu' in the Address field.
Enter the printer's queue name prefixed with 'printers/queue-name' in the Queue field. For example, 'printers/du139-lj4050'.
Enter a descriptive name for the printer in the Name field.
Optionally, enter the location of the printer in the Location field.
Select the appropriate printer model from the Print Using menu. If your printer model is not listed, you may need to install the printer manufacturer's driver and then repeat these steps. If you have problems obtaining a driver for your printer, try the Generic Postscript Driver. This option will work with most postscript printers.
Click the Add button to add the printer. If your printer has installable options, specify them on the installable options window and then click Continue.

Your computer needs to be connected to eduRoam wireless network for Laptop printing. If it has not connected to EduRoam before, see http://wifi.maine.edu/eduroam/.
General Client install instructions
After selecting the link for your campus above, click the link to go to the client download page. After clicking the link for the download location of your campus' PaperCut Client for Laptop printing, you will be taken to a Box link to download. Click Download.

Authenticate as an administrator and click Run anyway to allow the program to run.

An additional window will pop-up asking for admin credentials again, to allow install of the PaperCut client.
Next accept the License Agreement by clicking I Agree in the License Agreement Window.
In the Installation Options Window, leave both component boxes checked and click Install.
Installation will proceed.
When installation is complete, a window will pop-up to let you know. Click OK.

Save to Downloads folder or your desired location. (The file will have a .dmg file extension.)
Double-click on the .dmg file, and a 'disk' icon will appear with that name on your Desktop or in your sidebar. Double-click on the icon, and a window will appear.
Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) or later is now required.
Please read the README.txt for your campus' installer, some need to Drag and Drop the PCClient.app to the Application folder before they run the installer script.
Click the Laptop Printing Installer - RUN ME! file.
When security prompt pops up asking if you want to open the application, click Open.
When asked if you want to continue, click Yes.
When asked to authenticate, authenticate using an account with admin privileges on your laptop.
There is a little delay, while it copies the PaperCut client over to your application folder, then a progress bar will appear to show progress.
When pop-up appears asking 'Are you sure you want to open it?' click Open.
A pop-up will appear saying installation complete, although sometimes it hides behind other windows. You can verify successful installation, if you see a P for a PaperCut icon in the upper right of the desktop, the PCClient.app in the Applications folder and two new printer choices added to you list of printers (USM Laptop Color and USM Laptop Printer).
Printing
Once the PaperCut PC Client program is installed, when you choose the 'Print' option, you will need to select either your university printer (-LAPTOP for black and white printing or -LAPTOP-COLOR for color printing). If you have enough money on your USM card, you will be able to print; if not you will get an error. If you are unsure about your card balance, use the above link to your campus MyCard app.
